Too Old

I was born at a weird time. I was born in the year 2000 and grew up without the internet. I remember playing outside from sun up until sunset. I don’t think Mom saw in the house much, especially during the summer. We played like technology was some sort of foreign concept.

I remember being around 12 or 13 when my parents got our first home computer with wi-fi. That was also around the time I got my first TracFone. You know, the ones where there were only a handful of numbers and you had to buy minutes for it. It was also a flip! I played a lot of Snake and Sudoku on the bus in those days.

I don’t think I got my first smart phone until I was in high school. Back then, your carrier would give you a free upgraded phone every two years and you could keep your old phone. My dad had just gotten an upgrade and added me to the phone plan. That was my first “real” cellphone.

When they stopped doing free upgrades, I only got a new phone when I bought them for cash on Amazon. I don’t think I’ve ever had the “latest smart phone.” And it doesn’t bother me that I’ve never been up-to-date with the latest technology and trends. I’ve never cared before, and I don’t think I’ll ever really care all that much. Why get the latest phone when it does the same thing my current one does?

I guess I’m just too old-fashioned to be in the modern world today, and that doesn’t bother me.
